YOUR HOLIDAY. COMFORTABLY DIFFERENT.
Réunion combines tropical shores with a mountain region that requires a different holiday rhythm. In southern winter, stay several days on the west coast before spending time in Cilaos beneath steep cirque walls.

Saint-Gilles and Saint-Leu provide different coastal bases. A permitted lagoon area, a cultural visit and a day without a large programme are enough. Swimming freely along every shore is not an appropriate itinerary.
Cilaos deserves nights of its own. The winding approach and temperature change make it more than a quick photograph stop. Choose strolls and shorter open paths for your experience; summit ascents are outside this guide.
Covers the western coastal area from Le Port and Saint-Paul through Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, Ermitage and La Saline to Saint-Leu, including suitable cultural and garden visits. Includes the approach through Saint-Louis to Cilaos and the inhabited cirque with selected open shorter paths, Bras Sec and Roche Merveilleuse. Saint-Denis serves only arrival, not a sightseeing itinerary. Mafate, Salazie, Maïdo, the Piton des Neiges summit, high-mountain treks, Piton de la Fournaise, the east coast, Sud Sauvage and an all-island circuit are excluded.

May to October falls in southern winter. Shores remain pleasantly warm while higher locations are cooler. The west is drier than the windward east, though rain and closures remain possible. November to April is warmer and wetter. Le Port is a coastal lowland reference, chosen to represent shores honestly rather than to provide temperatures for Cilaos.
Temperature comparison: The bars show the 1991–2020 climate normal. The coloured line shows how the five most recent complete years, 2021–2025, differ: red = warmer, green = cooler. These five years form a recent comparison period, not a new climate normal.
