YOUR HOLIDAY. COMFORTABLY DIFFERENT.

Sea and landscapes.
Time in between.

Mauritius need not mean a holiday in tropical summer heat. Europe’s summer coincides with the cooler island winter. Western and northern coasts allow short beach sessions, coastal towns and a garden day of its own.

Mauritius need not mean a holiday in tropical summer heat. Europe’s summer coincides with the cooler island winter. Western and northern coasts allow short beach sessions, coastal towns and a garden day of its own.

Flic en Flac combines a beach with a practical village base. Tamarin offers a different, more open bay, while La Preneuse adds another coastal perspective. Choose individual outings rather than crossing the island every day.

The north brings Grand Baie, smaller coastal stops and Pamplemousses into the itinerary. A second accommodation base is optional. Give Port Louis a deliberately planned cultural day; the city is not a cool substitute for a beach break.

Which region does this guide cover?

Covers the west coast from Flic en Flac through Tamarin to La Preneuse/Rivière Noire, Port Louis as a connecting cultural day, and the north coast with Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy, Grand Baie, Pereybère and Cap Malheureux. Pamplemousses and the SSR Botanic Garden form a nearby inland outing. The east and south coasts, Le Morne, Chamarel, central upland routes, Black River Gorges, offshore island trips and Rodrigues are excluded. Not a complete island circuit.

Three perspectives.
One itinerary.

Lagoon time in the west, lively northern coastal towns and a garden visit in Pamplemousses.

01

WEST COAST

Flic en Flac

Combine beach time with local everyday trips. Shade breaks and a specific swimming area matter; a lagoon is not a daily clearance.

02

NORTH COAST

Grand Baie

A lively coastal town for meals, strolling and an optional second base. Choose accommodation for your preferred quiet; bays differ.

03

GARDEN & NATURE

SSR Botanic Garden in Pamplemousses

A garden visit of its own with plants and historical context. Check openings and routes with the operator; no particular flowering promised.

04

Tamarin

Bay scenery and local coastal life for a shorter outing. Open water differs from a sheltered lagoon.

05

La Preneuse

Another coastal stop around Rivière Noire for a visit of its own.

06

Trou aux Biches & Mont Choisy

Northwestern beach towns; choose a specific section for a northern day.

07

Cap Malheureux

Coastal views and the familiar red-roofed church without an offshore trip.

08

Port Louis

A cultural day between coastal bases with breaks and a limited outdoor circuit.

Reisezeit.
A regional perspective.

June to September is relatively cooler and drier than humid southern summer. The west is better sheltered from south-easterly trades but remains tropical and can become warm. Coastal nights and wind differ from the interior. November to April is not a dependable low-heat alternative. Medine represents western lowlands; actual beaches and the north may differ.

Seasonal tips and fresh perspectives on this destination.

GOOD TO KNOW, HONESTLY

A little planning.
Lots to look forward to.

When does Mauritius fit a coolcation?

Mainly southern winter from June to September; not a year-round cooling promise.

Why western and northern coasts?

Towns and gardens provide a manageable seasonal itinerary. Western shelter helps with trade-wind exposure.

Does this cover the whole island?

No. The east, south, uplands, Le Morne and Rodrigues need separate plans.

Can I swim?

Only according to local conditions and clearance. A lagoon or beach photo is insufficient.

Do I need two hotels?

No. A northern base is optional if you want several days there.

What climate reference is used?

Medine in the western lowlands, not every northern microclimate.
