YOUR HOLIDAY. COMFORTABLY DIFFERENT.
The High Black Forest is a rewarding German summer alternative when you prefer woodland shade and mountain air to overheated cities.
Titisee and Schluchsee add water to the holiday, while Feldberg and the surrounding hills bring fresher air. In between are trails, small towns and a wide variety of places to stay.
July is peak season and can also be warm here. Yet altitude often makes days far more comfortable than in the Rhine Valley. Rain and storms still deserve a place in any realistic plan.
For families, one base works especially well: a lake or swimming day, a short railway or woodland outing and a rest day often beat long drives every day.
This guide covers Titisee-Neustadt, Feldberg, Schluchsee and the higher Black Forest. Freiburg and the hotter Rhine Valley are deliberately outside this destination. Climate figures refer to Titisee-Neustadt; Feldberg is noticeably cooler.
PLACES THAT STAY WITH YOU
Three sides of the High Black Forest, without turning it into a checklist.

Lakeside paths, boats and an easy base for families. During holiday periods, arrive early or head away from the main promenade.

Wide views and fresh air. Check weather, wind and lift operations first—even summer can be chilly up here.

A place for swimming, cycling and long moments on the shore. Wind and water temperatures differ from one lakeside spot to another.
Woodland and bridges provide a lovely contrast to the lake.
A quieter base with railway connections and short walks.
A town with a monastery, ideal for a cultural break when the weather changes.
