YOUR HOLIDAY. COMFORTABLY DIFFERENT.

One lake.
So much forest time.

Lipno brings the water; the Bohemian Forest brings peace. Together they make an inviting alternative to summers spent in relentless heat.

Lipno Reservoir is the lively side of the region, with swimming, cycling, boating and family activities. Just a few kilometres away, the landscape grows quieter, more wooded and closer to nature.

The Bohemian Forest is not an alpine mountain range, but its hills, bogs and woodlands create pleasant summer conditions. Rain is part of the equation, and the lake is still popular during warm holiday weeks.

The most rewarding trip combines both: somewhere to stay on or near the water, a day with no agenda and two or three well-chosen nature excursions instead of daily long loops.

Which region does this guide cover?

This guide covers the Czech Bohemian Forest (Šumava) and Lipno Reservoir, including Lipno nad Vltavou, Frymburk, Horní Planá and selected national park excursions. Český Krumlov is an excellent addition, but not the focus of this lake-and-forest holiday. Climate figures reflect the higher Bohemian Forest/Lipno area; wind and temperatures vary locally between shore and woodland.

Cycling without the race

Lakeside paths are ideal for relaxed rides. Further inland, hills and changeable weather can make routes harder than the map suggests.

04

Frymburk

A quieter lakeside base with water, a promenade and easy nearby walks.

05

Horní Planá

Smaller and laid-back, a good fit for a quiet lake week.

06

Český Krumlov

A rewarding cultural day trip; visit early or late during peak season.

Cool forest air.
Summer-lake feeling.

The Bohemian Forest helps moderate summer heat, though it cannot prevent rainy days. July and August are good for lakeside holidays, but also the busiest months with more thunderstorms. June and September are often the calmer all-round choices.

No. The mix of lake shores, cycling, forests, villages and short walks gives the region a broad appeal.

How long should we stay?

Five nights offer a good introduction; seven or eight leave room for bad weather and rest days.

Is Český Krumlov part of the destination?

It is a very worthwhile day trip. This guide deliberately focuses on the lake and woodland landscape.

Stay on marked paths and check current regulations. Protected and closed areas may change seasonally.
