WHY NOW
The island celebrates what it does best: nature.
Madeira celebrates flowers, colour and spring culture from 30 April to 31 May 2026. Highlights include the Wall of Hope ceremony on 2 May and major flower parades on 3 and 17 May, along with concerts, installations and other events.
Why May in particular?
Madeira is especially green and mild in spring. May is attractive for levada hikes, gardens and coastal days before the height of summer.
The Flower Festival lasts all month
The official programme runs from 30 April to 31 May. Alongside the grand parades, it includes floral groups, concerts, installations and vintage-car events.
Combine Funchal with nature
Do not plan only festival days. One or two days in Funchal combine nicely with levada walks, the north coast and higher mountain routes.
Choose a good viewing spot early for the major parades.
Plan highland hikes only after checking current weather and trail conditions.
Allow at least a week if city and nature are equally important to you.
