WHY NOW
The west coast outside, contemporary art indoors.
TULCA 2026 is titled “Veruca Salt” and runs from 6 to 22 November at several venues in Galway City and County.
Why Galway is a useful west-coast base in November
Ireland’s west coast is wild, dark and changeable in November. That is not ideal for a conventional touring holiday built around long days of sightseeing. Galway, however, works as a fixed base: pubs, restaurants, music, galleries and short distances make it possible to respond to any weather.
TULCA from 6 to 22 November
The Festival of Visual Arts takes place for the 24th time in 2026. Under the title “Veruca Salt”, its programme spans several locations in Galway City and County. Exhibitions, film, performance, sound, talks and workshops make the month particularly interesting for cultural travellers.
The Wild Atlantic Way in short weather windows
Connemara, the Burren and the coast can remain part of the trip, but need not be daily obligations. Use clearer, calmer weather for the landscape and stay in Galway during storms or prolonged rain. That avoids long drives with little to see.
November brings shorter days
Plan outdoor activities for the middle of the day and expect driving in rain and darkness to feel more demanding. A second overnight base is worthwhile only if you have several nights available.
Who is this trip for?
Art and music lovers, couples, pub culture, photography and travellers who actively enjoy a wild Atlantic atmosphere. Another season is more reliable for a walking holiday with long coastal stages.
