WHY NOW
Three days when Hamburg belongs to its harbour.
Hamburg's 837th Port Anniversary takes place from 8 to 10 May 2026. Around the Landungsbrücken, HafenCity and the Elbe, visitors can enjoy ship parades, stages, open-ship visits and the famous tugboat ballet.
Why May is good for Hamburg
Spring is pleasant for long walks beside the Elbe and Alster. Parks turn green, daylight hours are noticeably longer and harbour ferries fit easily into the day's itinerary.
Port Anniversary, 8–10 May
The maritime programme begins on Friday. Saturday brings the tugboat ballet and other highlights, and the weekend closes with the grand departure parade on Sunday.
Beyond the event weekend
Stay for two extra days to explore Speicherstadt, the Alster and neighbourhoods away from the harbour crowds at a much more relaxed pace.
Use public transport.
Bring windproof clothing for the harbour.
Book popular boat trips early.
