WHY NOW
First the stage, then the fjords.
Bergen International Festival takes place from 27 May to 10 June 2026. Music, theatre, dance and other art forms fill historic and contemporary venues across Bergen. Immediately afterwards, the busiest summer season begins in many fjord regions.
Why early June?
The days are exceptionally long, the landscape is fresh and green, and many tourist transport services are operating regularly again. Yet the height of peak season has not arrived everywhere.
Bergen International Festival until 10 June
This long-established festival turns Bergen into a stage, bringing international productions into the city's historic setting.
Continue into the fjords afterwards
From Bergen you can travel onwards to Hardangerfjord, Sognefjord and other regions. Fewer changes of base and more time at each fjord make the journey more relaxing.
Book your Bergen accommodation early for the festival.
Check ferry and train connections in advance.
Pack rainwear regardless of the forecast.

Bergen turns dark November days into a festive calendar: the Festival of Lights and gingerbread town start on 14 November, and the Christmas market opens on Festplassen on the 20th.
On 17 May, Bergen feels particularly Norwegian: parades, traditional costumes, flags and the city's famous Buekorps fill the day, culminating in late-evening fireworks.
