Arequipa in January to March: culture with weather flexibility
Include southern summer, possible showers and smaller city sessions honestly in the travel decision.

WHY NOW
Why this season?
Even a predominantly dry region has seasonal differences. A warmer rainy period is not reinterpreted using a cold mountain reference.
Do not infer weather from the White City label
Arequipa’s architecture and scenery often look dry and sunny in photographs. January to March still calls for a different plan from the preferred drier months. Choose the season for your interests: culture can support a stay without long daily outdoor programmes.
First establish accommodation and reachable meals. A short city session and longer pause may suit better than an all-day circuit. Check weather advice before outings. A convenient base helps switch between indoor and outdoor time without major transport.
Culture is more than a random rain substitute
Choose an indoor visit for its subject and confirmed opening. Santa Catalina also includes courtyards and outdoor lanes, so it is not entirely weather-independent. Assess the actual visit rather than only the word monastery or museum.
Another day can explore San Lázaro or a smaller historic-centre route. Wet surfaces and cobbles affect walking. Keep routes interruptible instead of beginning a distant trip whenever a shower arrives.
Decide valley visits locally
Chilina is a possible complement rather than a daily requirement. Confirm access and conditions beforehand. A summer city break does not establish an open riverside walk everywhere.
If dry landscape days are your priority, compare these dates with May to October. Mild air alone does not make a season ideal. For fixed dates, a few reachable cultural subjects, spare time and clear transport arrangements provide the coherent basis for this stay.
