WHY NOW
A medieval town rather than manufactured Alpine Christmas charm.
The 24th Glurns Advent takes place from 5 to 8 December 2026 under the theme 'Light, Scents and Sounds', with more than 45 market stalls announced.
Why this destination belongs in our Christmas series
Advent in Vinschgau need not be centred on a large ski resort. The small historic town of Glurns offers a striking setting that is worth a few days in its own right, especially if you prefer crafts and music to fairground rides.
More than 45 stalls, but not a mass-market atmosphere
According to the organisers, producers and craftspeople are the focus. Brass ensembles, alphorns, choirs, church music and communal singing complement the stalls. Children's activities include craft workshops, storytelling and puppet theatre.
The medieval walls become a natural stage
Glurns does not feel like a temporary Christmas village: its lanes, gateways and historic houses are already there. They create an atmosphere that needs little additional decoration.
Combine Glurns with a peaceful Vinschgau weekend
One or two market days are enough. Depending on conditions, add Schlanders, monasteries or lower valley walks. The Ortler mountains may already be fully wintry in December, so summer Alpine excursions cannot be taken for granted.
Who will enjoy this Advent trip?
