WHY NOW

Ten days to taste the island's autumn flavours.

From 4 to 13 September 2026, the Saaremaa Food Festival celebrates local producers, restaurants, an autumn market and regional food. Summer crowds have thinned out, making this a lovely time to explore the coast at a slower pace.

Why visit in September?

Summer life on Saaremaa and Hiiumaa revolves around long daylight hours and the outdoors. September is quieter without yet feeling like winter. Cycling, coastal roads, lighthouses and walks are appealing if you accept Baltic wind and changeable weather as part of the experience.

Food Festival, 4–13 September 2026

Over ten days the festival brings together restaurants, producers and visitors. Restaurant specials, an autumn market and seasonal dishes feature in the programme. Fish, mushrooms, berries, vegetables and island-grown produce make particularly good sense at this time of year.

Hiiumaa as a peaceful contrast

With enough time, combine Saaremaa with Hiiumaa. The focus there is less on the festival and more on forests, shores, villages and lighthouses. Build some flexibility into your ferry plans.

  • Book popular restaurant events well ahead.
  • Pack waterproof and windproof clothing.
  • Allow at least five to seven days when visiting both islands.
