Pontarlier’s Marché de Noël is announced for 11–24 December 2026 in the town centre.

Why this destination belongs in the Christmas series

The French Jura offers a welcome change from German-speaking Advent markets. Cheese, regional cooking and proximity to the Swiss border shape the stay more than Krampus or gingerbread.

A market until Christmas Eve

The market runs for almost two weeks, closing earlier on 24 December. Pontarlier therefore also suits a trip just before Christmas.

Comté and Mont d’Or rather than standard snacks

The region has a strong food culture. A market visit becomes more interesting when combined with a cheese shop, bakery or regional restaurant rather than eating only at stalls.

The high Jura means winter

Roads, high-level paths and lakes can have wintry conditions in December. Current conditions determine outdoor plans, while Pontarlier remains a dependable town base in changing weather.
