WHY NOW
A film festival where it never really gets dark outside.
The Midnight Sun Film Festival takes place in Sodankylä from 10 to 14 June 2026. Films, discussions and events continue over several days beneath a sky that never goes dark at this time of year.
The midnight sun is the real star
North of the Arctic Circle, the sun does not set in June. In Rovaniemi, the period without sunset lasts roughly from 6 June to 7 July; farther north, it lasts even longer.
A film festival from 10 to 14 June
For decades, the festival has been closely connected to this extraordinary light. Screenings and conversations take place virtually around the clock.
Think of Lapland without snow
June reveals a completely different region from the one visitors see on winter trips: hiking, cycling, rivers, forests and bright nights take centre stage.
Pack a sleep mask for the bright nights.
Bring insect repellent for days outdoors.
Check local hiking conditions, as higher trails may still be wet.
