A weekend in Brno: why the city, sport and Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum won us over

Brno surprised us in the best way on our weekend visit. The combination of its Old Town, sport right beside our hotel, Executive Lounge access and a relaxing wellness break worked particularly well.

WHY NOW

A weekend that turned out to be unexpectedly well rounded.

We visited Brno ourselves in late September 2026, combining the Old Town, padel and a stay at Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum. Several things that sounded merely convenient on paper worked remarkably well together.

Brno surprised us – and it did not take long

We spent a weekend in Brno at the end of September and came home with a clear impression: the city is excellent for an uncomplicated short break. It has enough urban life, culture, food and sporting opportunities to feel like a proper city trip, yet it is compact enough that a weekend need not become a constant race between activities.

Early autumn suited our visit particularly well. We could spend plenty of time outside without midsummer heat, and there was still room for breaks between the Old Town, sport and the hotel. Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum turned out to be an unusually convenient base for us: not in the heart of the tourist centre, but on the edge of the inner city, with sport right next door, a small wellness area and an Executive Lounge that made our daily rhythm surprisingly relaxed.

Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum: a hotel that impressed us with the details

One thing we remember particularly clearly about the hotel is how exceptionally helpful and friendly the staff were. We felt very comfortable at Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum, and that contributed a great deal to our positive experience.

On a short stay, how comfortable we feel at the hotel matters to us. Here it worked. Together with the lovely views, the lounge and wellness area, the hotel became an enjoyable part of the weekend rather than just somewhere to sleep.

Executive Room and Cosmo Sky Lounge: genuinely useful on a weekend trip

We stayed in an Executive Room with access to the Cosmo Sky Lounge. We especially enjoyed the views and the option of dropping into the lounge between activities.

The lounge was the real added value for us. During our stay it was accessible from 10 am to 10 pm, with snacks and drinks included. That changed our daily routine: a quick drink before heading into town, a small bite after playing padel, or ten minutes sitting with a view in the afternoon – without having to find another café every time.

Guests with lounge access can use the same offering. There are no different levels of service within the lounge depending on room category. Our Executive Room included access, and we found it extremely convenient for this weekend.

Wellness with a view: small, but perfect for an hour

We also really enjoyed the wellness area with its pool and sauna. We could reserve a free one-hour time slot each day during our stay. It was a lovely way to build a relaxed break into the weekend.

Do not expect a huge thermal spa complex. On a city break, we actually preferred this: an hour in the pool and sauna after sport or sightseeing, then on with the day. The views over Brno through the large windows are especially good.

Our biggest advantage: sport right beside the hotel

As a family that enjoys sport, we found the location a real bonus. The outdoor courts of Padel Brno are right next to the hotel. We played padel there, and this combination of hotel, sport and city was one of the highlights for us.

That is exactly how we used it. We played padel in the morning and could practically walk straight from the hotel to the court. For a family city break, it is a brilliant combination: you do not have to choose between an active holiday and a city trip when both can fit into the same day.

There are other sports venues and training facilities in the surrounding area too. At first glance, this may not seem the most tourist-oriented location, but for active travellers we found it a genuine advantage.

And the Old Town? Closer than you might expect

The hotel is on the edge of the city centre. That suited our weekend perfectly: sport next door, and the Old Town within reach. You can walk into the centre or use public transport.

We really liked the Old Town. Historic squares, cafés and the Cathedral of St Peter and Paul give Brno plenty of atmosphere. What we appreciated was its manageable size: there is lots to see without a short visit immediately feeling overloaded.

That was one of our favourite things about Brno. It does not feel like a city where you must complete a list of famous sights. You can browse a market, stop for coffee, wander down a side street and later walk up to Špilberk Castle without feeling that the day is somehow incomplete.

Why Brno worked so well for our family weekend

For us, the strength was the mix. A child does not necessarily want to walk through the Old Town all day, while adults may want more than amusement parks. Brno made it easy to combine different interests:

  • an active morning – for us, padel right beside the hotel;
  • a break afterwards in the lounge or wellness area;
  • the city in the afternoon – on foot or via a short journey into the centre;
  • and enough breathing room in between to stop the weekend becoming a timetable.

If you stay longer, Brno is also a good base for exploring South Moravia. With only two nights, however, we would not try to squeeze in Mikulov, Lednice, Valtice and Aqualand Moravia as well. Brno has more than enough to offer for one weekend.

What we liked most at the Cosmopolitan

  • The staff: consistently friendly and attentive.
  • Executive Room: good space, lovely views and lounge access.
  • Cosmo Sky Lounge: open from 10 am to 10 pm during our stay, with snacks and drinks included – a real comfort boost for us.
  • Wellness: a free, bookable one-hour daily time slot during our visit, with pool and sauna.
  • Location for sport: padel next door and other sporting opportunities on the premises.
  • Location for sightseeing: not in the tourist Old Town itself, but close enough to walk or take a short ride.

Our verdict: we would happily return to Brno

We wanted a weekend combining city life, family time and a little sport – and Brno worked unexpectedly well for exactly that. In late September it was pleasantly lively without being tiring. The Old Town is lovely enough to provide a genuine city-break atmosphere, without the need to rush from one famous landmark to another.

We would certainly consider Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum again. The overall package suited our stay extremely well: friendly staff, a comfortable Executive Room, the convenient lounge, an hour of wellness and sport right outside the door.

This was one of those short trips where, after getting home, you do not think, “Well, we've seen it now.” You think, “We could go back there.”
