WHY NOW
An Advent where craftsmanship matters more than scale.
The Kripperl-Roas at Ischlberg runs from 20 to 22 November 2026. The Kurpark Christmas market opens on 27 November and returns on Advent weekends through 20 December.
Why this destination belongs in our Christmas series
Ausseerland is particularly appealing if you prefer small-town Advent over big-city markets. Bad Aussee combines independent shops, cafés, regional produce and landscapes that can already feel wintry, without guaranteed snow.
Kripperl-Roas and the Christmas market offer different experiences
The Kripperl-Roas on 20–22 November focuses on nativity scenes and local traditions. The Kurpark Christmas market opens on 27 November, selling items such as Swiss stone pine crafts, lanterns, honey products, knitwear and hand-painted baubles. A large wooden nativity scene is part of the display.
Children can try woodworking themselves
The Christkindl woodworking workshop in the pavilion gives children a chance to create small wooden objects using age-appropriate equipment. It provides a more hands-on experience than the usual food and drink stalls.
Use Bad Aussee as a base rather than visiting everywhere
Bad Aussee alone works well for a weekend. If weather allows, add Grundlsee or Altaussee. Higher outings towards the Dachstein require independent checks of snow and conditions; summer trail descriptions cannot simply be reused in Advent.
Who is this Advent trip for?
Especially good for families, craft lovers and couples seeking a smaller, locally rooted celebration.
- Kripperl-Roas: 20–22 November 2026.
- Christmas market from 27 November.
- Regional products rather than generic goods.
